Local Love: Espita Mezcaleria

Espita DC

When it comes to my favorite type of food, I have to say that Mexican food wins ALL the time! I’m also always in the hunt for the yummiest taco in the city! I was super excited to check out Espita and I was definitely not disappointed.

What: Espita Mezcaleria
Location/Neighborhood: 1250 9th St NW, Washington, DC 20001/ Shaw

Espita

Atmosphere: Super chill vibe! I LOVED the decor.  Earthy tones and colorful murals all around the restaurant. Josh Phillips collaborated with Rachel Reid Aikens of REID & TAYLOR Studio in New York City, to design the space. “Espita was designed to combine the vibe of Oaxaca with industrial materials and lighting to create an intoxicating interior. The space is modern, casual, and approachable, while retaining the essence of a small vintage mezcal itself.”

What We Loved:  So many things to love about this place but a few things that stood out was the amazing customer service.  Second and most important part was the drinks! They have over 100 types of Mezcales — so if Mezcal is your thing, this is the place to visit. I ordered the Mayahuel which was refreshing and the perfect pairing for the food I ordered.  My fave dish on the menu was their Mole Negro ( I can’t stop craving this!)  Pulpo Ceviche and Shrimp.  Check out their entire menu HERE!  (Sorry! It will make you super hungry)

SCDC Tip: The dishes are pretty small so I suggest sharing a few dishes and sides with your group or partner-in-food- crime. Reservations can be made for the main dining room only. The patio, bar and dining rail are available on a first come, first serve basis.  Looking for a place to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Fam or Friendsgiving? Espita Mezcaleria will celebrate Thanksgiving with Mezcal De Pechuga throughout the month of November. Make your reservations today and thank us later! 😉
